In this scene the 3 witches meet up with Macbeth and Banquo. The witches tell them the prophecys for each one of them. Macbeth will be thane of Glamis, thane of Cawdor, and one day he will become King. Banquo's prophecy was that his children will one day rule as kings.
In this scene King Duncan establishes hat Malcolm will be the next heir to the throne. In Macbeth he believes that he is to be king next because of what the witches told him. Macbeth then realizes that he has to find a way for him to be king.
In scene 4 act 1 Lady Macbeth receives a letter from Macbeth saying how he meet up with some witches and told him that he shalt be king one day. In this scene Lady Macbeth gets an ambition of helping her husband Macbeth one day become King, but to do so she wants Macbeth to kill king Duncan. In the letter it also says that later that evening Macbeth will be holding a gathering with the king and Malcolm to celebrate.
