The first major cause of the French Revolution was that the country was quite poor after the French spent a lot of money to aid the US in the American Revolution.
We need the French's help to beat the British!
But, King Louis XVIII decided that instead of the rich, or the government pay for it, that they would tax the poor sending an already poverty stricken people of France into a homeless and starving people.
Tax the poor!
Let them eat cake!
I miss mom.
And the people were not happy about that, people would die of starvation and that would leave kids without parents or worse yet, children would die. So, the people became angry with the monarchy.
Some of the things that came out of the French Revolution were ground breaking for the time, such as the Declaration of the Rights of Man. But that wasn't the only change, the entire government system changed over time.
The newly formed Senate ensured that there would be no need for another revolution by creating the Declaration of the Rights of Man, making all people of France equal, regardless of Social Class.
The Republic of France also changed who led the country, by switching from a Monarchy to a system led by 3 consuls being led by Napoleon Bonaparte who was the first consul and had authority over the Senate.
