  • Mrs. Dunbar represents kindness, because it seems like she's intentionally avoiding stoning Mrs. Hutchinson because she doesn't want to hurt anyone.
  • The fact that a lottery is supposed to be fun and excited, and the one in this story is more stressful and scary
