piggys glasses represent civilization and technology because it is used to light the fire. this is important because fire is the only way for the kids to get off the island. this is shown by "his specs, use them as burning glasses. Piggy was surrounded before he could back away"

the conch represents civilization and organisation because it is used as a way to control and organise the other children. this is important because without organisation there would be no way to be civilized . this is shown by "Even Jack respects the conch. After he fails to stage a coup, he laid the conch with great care in the grass at his feet . he doesn't throw it or smash it; he sets it down carefully. He may not want to play by the rules, but he respects the rules.
