  • In the story, a mongoose named Rikki Tikki was washed from his home by a bad flood and ended up on the garden path of Teddy and his family in India. He became their pet and protector.

  • WHile out exploring the garden, Rikki met Darzee the tailorbird and his wife, who were weeping because Nag the cobra had eaten one of their fledglings. Rikki knew that it was his job as a mongoose to kill snakes.
  • falling action
  •  Rikki met Nag. Darzee's wife warned Rikki that Nagaina was coming up behind him. Rikki avoided Nagaina's strike. She and Nag left. Teddy came to find Rikki, Karait had come up by Teddy's hand. rikki killed him, which built his confidence. Later that night, Rikki heard Nag and Nagaina talking about killing the big man. After Nag hid, Rikki killed him.
  • resolution/ending
  • Nagaina is about to kill Teddy, but Rikki distracts her with one of her eggs and the big man pulls Teddy to safety. Nagaina and Rikki fight for a while, but Rikki leaves the egg unguarded and Nagaina runs with it.
  • Rikki is chasing Nagaina, but he cannot catch up. Darzee's wife bites Nagaina and slows her down just enough for Rikki to grab on, and Nagaina pulls Rivki into her burrow. Darzee starts singing Rikki's death song.
  • Rikki comes out of the Burrow and says "It is all over" meaning that he has killed Nagaina and destroyed the final egg.
