Storyboard Text

  • Hello Class! My name is Mr. Alexander. Today we will be learning about Acids and Bases.
  • Don't Acids have a 0-6.9 pH?
  • Wait! What is an acid and a base?
  • I'm pretty sure bases have a 7.1-14 pH.
  • Hello Class! My name is Mr. Alexander. Today we will be learning about Acids and Bases.
  • You're both right John and Alex. Bethany, an acid is a molecule that can accept or receive an electron, and a base is a molecule that can receive or neutralize hydroxide ions.
  • Bethany, there are plenty of examples of acids and bases. Acids are like lemons, apples, and hydrochloric acid.
  • There are a lot of things that you use that are acids and bases.
  • Oh!
  • Bethany, you can use litmus paper to see if a liquid is an acid or a base.
  • There are bases such as ammonia, soap, baking soda, and bleach.
  • Whenever you taste acids they taste sour, but bases will taste bitter.
  • Just like Alex said earlier, litmus paper turns blue if it is a base and red if it's an acid.
  • Since water is just plain water, it'd have a 7.0 pH, correct?
  • That is correct! Water would be neutral.
  • Don't forget the closer the pH is closer to 14 the stronger the base is!
  • That is correct! Good job Bethany, Class Dismissed!
  • Also, don't forget the closer the pH is closer to 1 the stronger the acid is!
  • I heard this before, but I am sure acids and bases conduct electricity.
