  • Northerner opposed because they wanted to to have free states , but they passed a law below the line.
  • Northern Free States: Beliefs about Congressional Power?
  • Slaves states needed to be equal in order to have Congress under control
  • Northern Free States:Fears about the Compromise? 
  • Northerner feared that slavery would grow!
  • That's horrrible!
  • Northerners wanted state to become free states below the line until they passed a law to allow slavery states below the 36-30 line.
  • Southern Free states: Why did they support it?
  • Southerners liked this because they could choose to have a free state or slave state
  • Wanted to have both free and slave states to be even because there is balance in Congress
  • Southern Free states: Beliefs about states' rights?
  • the southern states should be able to choose either a slave or free state
  • Slavery would grow and free state will become slave states and would unbalance the number of free and slave states and congress will become unbalanced
