Storyboard Text

  • Hi Jimmy! How did the catholic church start?
  • Well....
  • it started when Jesus came to earth
  • these 12 were the beginning of the church or ekklesia in greek
  • to spread God's word, Jesus found 12 people to help him and they were called disciples or apostles
  • WOW
  • when Jesus died, the holy spirit helped his friends to be more confident
  • 13 When morning came, he called his disciples to him and chose twelve of them, whom he also designated apostles (Luke 16:1 3)
  • they could also speak different languages
  • they now had traditions to uphold and the mission of evangelizing or spreading the word of God to others
  • that day was called pentecost, its kind of like the church's birthday
  • 4 So Barnabas and Saul were sent out by the Holy Spirit. (Acts 13:4)
  • you can read all about the Peter and Paul's missionary journeys, in the Acts of the Apostles
  • thats cool!
  • what does that all really mean though?
  • since we are part of the church, we have to continue what they did, evangelizing
  • 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit (Matthew 26: 19)
