Storyboard Text

  • fertilizers are being used to fertilize the soil which provides plants with more nutrients.
  • when it rains, the excess fertilizers will be washed off into nearby lakes or rivers causing surface run-off.
  • this means that there is an increase of nitrate or phosphate which causes more algae to grow at the top of the lake or river.
  • with algae at the top of the lake or river, it blocks out the sunlight for the other plants at the bottom, causing it not to be able to photosynthesize and thus, the plant dying.
  • when plants die, animals end up dying sooner or later due to the lack of oxygen that was supposed to be produced by the plants in the lake or river.
  • this is eutrophication.
