When Winnie goes into the woods she goes she sees a man. She sees him more pebbles and drink from the water that was under the pebbles. She talks to him and wants to drink the water but he says no. She gets mad and asks why. A woman comes with another man. They kidnap her to explain why she can't drink from the water.
They take her farther in the woods so they can explain. When they finally stop They state their names, Mae, Jesse, and Miles. They start to explain what happened after they had drank from the water. The water had made them immortal. Winnie doesn't believe them but goes to their home to hear more about it.
They soon get back home where Winnie meets Tuck. Tuck later takes Winnie on a boat ride and compares what they have to a wheel. Winnie starts to understand better. At night they all one by one talk to Winnie. Jesse says to drink the water when she older so they can get married, and the others ask how she is and if she understands.
The man in the yellow suit talks about Miles wife, kids, and how he know that they are immortal. He talks about how he got the woods and how he is going to sell the water. Mae hits him on the head with the shotgun to save Winnie and to make sure he can't sell it. Mae gets taken to jail and Winnie goes back home.
Mae ended up killing the man. Winnie, Miles, Jesse, and Tuck had move the bars on window to get Mae out. Winnie takes Mae place so they could run away. Before Jesse left he gave Winnie a bottle of the water to drink when she is older. Winnie had ruined her parents name but they understood why she did it.
In 1950 Mae and Tuck came back to Treegap. They asked what had happened to the woods they were told it was a big electrical storm and they torn it down, they had never found a stream. Tuck goes to a cemetery. He sees Winnie's gave. She didn't drink the water, got married, and had kids. she died two years before.
