For the past year, I have spent every Friday on the river, fishing for enough fish to last my family the week. I was approached by Saul, the elder of our group, and he delivered the best news I have ever received in my life.
I am impressed by all that you have done for your family this year. I believe that now is a good time for you to go on your vision quest.
I rushed back to the reserve to tell my parents about the news that I received so that I could start my quest as soon as possible. Considering that I've been planning for my quest for a year, I already had the location of my quest figured out: a small tunnel in the forest that my father brought me to when i was younger to pray. Out of joy, I left home right away to begin my quest and start my journey of my self discovery.
I arrived at the tunnel later that night and began saying my prayers right away. I was eager to receive my vision and its message so that I could receive the direction that I have been seeking.
Let us walk safely on the Earth with all living beings great and small. Remember as we go that one God kind and wise created all.
After four days of fasting and praying, I was beginning to get worried that my vision was not coming. I said a prayer asking for my vision. As I was praying, I envisioned a hedgehog approaching me. I automatically knew that was my vision and I became very curious to know how such a small animal could be so influential on my journey through life.
On my way back to the reserve, I was so curious to understand what my vision of the hedgehog meant. I was very satisfied with my vision quest as I learned what it was like to be independent and act like a faithful adult. I was very anxious and excited to go visit Saul and have him interpret my vision.
When I got back to the reserve, I told Saul about my vision. He told me that the hedgehog is symbolic of energy and intelligence and that my journey through adulthood will be one in which i will be able to take care of myself with grace and handle the challenges that I face with ease and practicality.
My vision quest was an amazing, intense journey of self-discovery and faith. I cannot wait to see what adulthood has in store for me!
