  • Characterization: John shows us that he is unwilling to give up his good name and will do anything to keep respect from the people.
  • I've given you my sole, Please leave me my name!
  • Characterization: Abigail threatening the other girls shows that she knows she was the only one performing witchcraft and will do anything to be with John Proctor.
  • If you tell anybody the truth, I will come and kill you and you know I will.
  • Dramatic Irony: John can't remember adultery, yet it should be the one he remembers most considering he committed this crime.
  • Why I can not remember the last.
  • Adultery, John.
  • Theme: In this scene we see the theme of it is better to die for something you believe in than die for something you don't believe in.

  • Dramatic Irony: Elizabeth lies to save John but we know that John has already confessed and they are making sure Elizabeth is an honest person.
  • Theme: Good vs Evil. The Devil vs God is a theme because it is what the trials are based on. Who has con spirited with the devil and who is true to God.
