  • Lizzy- “Do you want to time travel?” Perry- “Sure! Where?” Lizzy-”I was thinking about Ancient Egypt. How does that sound?” Perry- “Good. Let’s focus specifically on the artisans.” Lizzy- “Yes. Those were my favorites but I don’t know much about them.” Perry-”Let’s find out.”
  • Perry- “WOW! Is this Ancient Egypt?” Lizzy- “Yep! Look there is an Artisan. Let’s go talk to her! Rania-”Hello! Are you time travelers?” Perry- “Yes.” Rania- “Well than surely you know I’m an Artisan. Did you know that we are on the 2nd to the bottom in the pyramid?” Lizzy- “No. Why are you near the botom?” Rania-” Because Artisans aren’t really respected. Only the most masterful of us are sometimes honored.”(100.1)
  • Lizzy- “What are all of the types of Artisans?” Perry- “Yes. I’d like to know as well.” Rania- “Well, there are stone carvers, the most valued, carpenters, jewlers, leatherworkers, metalworkers, painters, potters, sculptors and weavers.” Perry- “Wow. Thats a lot.” Rania- “Yes. We need someone to do these jobs. Everyone has different skills. They do what they do best.” Perry- ”What are you?” Rania-” I’m a weaver.” Lizzy- “Cool!” (100.2)
  • Rania- “Come to my house with me. I Will give you a tour and show you some work.” Lizzy- “OK.” Rania- “This is my house.” Perry- “Wow. I like this. Did you weave this?” Rania- “Yes.” Perry- “Should we start the tour?” Rania- “As you can tell by looking around, the houses are rectangular. So, first comes the workroom. It is also used to house animals in some houses. Next, we have the living room. After that, we have one last room which is divided into a kitchen and a bedroom. In some cases, you have to use the roof as a bedroom, too.” Lizzy- “That is a lot of stuff squeezed into three rooms.” Rania- “Yes, but we have learned to manage.” (100.6)
  • Rania- “Now I will take you to the workshop. You will see that there will be multiple Artisan working.” Perry- “Let’s go.” Rania- “The workers will generally have a break every ten days. We pretty much depend on our employers for food. When there is a food shortage, we sometimes starve.”(100.7) Lizzy- “That sounds awful!” Rania- “Sometimes, it is. But I find the work calming occasionally.” Perry- “ Are you hungry right now?” Rania-”No. Right now I am on my break.” Lizzy- “Well Rania, I am sorry to say, but we have to go home now.” Rania-”Bye! Travel back soon.”
  • Perry- “Well now that we are back, lets reflect.” Lizzy- “Well, the artisans are like our teachers. They both have a certain skill. Kind of like how Mr. Meyer is good a teaching social studies and LA.” Perry- “But they are different because they have a break at different times. Artisans have a break every ten days, but Mr.Meyer gets one every five days.” Lizzy- “ Yes.”
