  • This is all a lie!
  • They want to overthrow the court!
  • They lie, they lie!
  • No Mary don't hurt us
  • Has he committed the crime of adultery?
  • No.
  • Giles, John and Mary enter the court and Giles proceeds in declaring that Putnam only wants more land. Mary testifies against the other girls that the whole witchcraft act was false, but Parris says that they are trying to overthrow the court.
  • They have robbed me!
  • Giles and Proctor refuse to name the people who signed the letter and Giles is accused of contempt of court. Abigail denies Mary's claims and when Mary cannot pretend to faint , Abigail and the other girls accuse her of bewitching them
  • I cannot mount the gallows like a martyr
  • I was a cold wife
  • Angered, John leaps at Abigail calling her a whore. He confesses the affair and tells them of her plot to kill Elizabeth. Unsure, Danforth calls for Elizabeth and proceeds in asking her questions about Abigail William's dismissal. Elizabeth lies to save her husband  
  • Save him woman
  • I see a shred of goodness within me
  • He has his goodness
  • Hang them from the gallows
  • That Autumn Danforth and Hawthorne visit Parris who tells them that Abigail and Mercy vanished after robbing him. Hale has returned to urge the convicted to confess and save themselves but they will not. The judges agree to let Elizabeth urge Proctor to confess.
  • I plead. Let them confess.
  • Elizabeth agrees to speak to Proctor but makes no promises, she tells him of how Giles died without pleading guilty or not. He asks her wether he sould confess and says that unlike others he refrains due to spite. Eventually, he decides to confess and live.
  • As Proctor starts to confess they bring Rebecca Nurse in an attempt to persuade her to also confess. Ashamed by her presence he confesses but refuses to sign the declaration. He hesitates, and Danforth tells him if he does not have written evidence for the village the confession is not justified. Proctor rips the paper in two and saves his name as he is led of to the gallows with the other victims
