The Suez Canal was a very important trade route for Egypt, Iran, and Iraq who depended on it. Egypt needed arms most importantly because they needed to be able to defend the canal should it be taken into the wrong hands.
Egypt made a change and subsidized bread which caused a riot for the people and eventually lead to 70 deaths.During the cold war, grain was Egypt main factor and the US was able to provide them with over 4 billion dollars to help with he lack of grain.
