  • Chapter 1: Taken
  • "Faster! Faster! Move, you lazy good-for nothings!" 
  • Chapter 2: Transports
  • "Fire! I see a fire! I see a fire!"
  • Chapter 3: Arrived 
  • The Jews were taken from the ghettos and stuffed into cars with 80 people in each cars. They were to be taken to the concentration camp. (page:22)
  • Chapter 4: Losing Faith
  • "You old loafer. Is this what you call working."
  • The Jew were still on the train and the were being transported to the camps. There was a woman that kept saying she saw a fire, but no one believed her until they got to the camp and they saw it too. (page 28)
  • Chapter 5: The Escape
  • "Well, father, what do we do?" He was silent. "Let's evacuate with the others, I said..."
  • They arrived at Auschwitz and were separated from their families.  This is a description of how it was when the arrived. "Comrades, you are now in the concentration camp Auschwitz. Ahead of you lies a long road paved of suffering. Don't lose hope. You have already eluded the worst danger: the selection..."  (page 41)
  • Idek began beating Elie's father because he thought he wasn't working hard enough. (page. 54)
  • Oh no! Dad!
  • This is when the Jew had to get out of the concentration camp because of the Russian front was getting to close to the camp. They had to find a way to get away. (page 82)
