Storyboard Text

  • My power comes from God!
  • Why won't this guy work with us?
  • No more monarchy now that I'm in charge
  • Thank God, (even though he didn't give me power) there is a monarchy again
  • James I believed in the divine rights of kings which lead to tensions with Parliament.
  • Revolution!!!!!
  • I better get out of here!
  • This tension (and a few other reasons) eventually lead to a civil war. It was fought between the Roundheads (who supported Parliament) and the Cavaliers (who supported the King).
  • I can't wait to work together for the good of our country
  • What a glorious revolution
  • Time to celebrate
  • Olivier Cromwell was a "roundhead" who took control of England after the civil war. He abolished the monarchy and parliament - he set himself up as the military dictator of England. After his death, England restored the monarchy.
  • English Bill of Rights
  • I'm so glad we all decided to work together
  • The Glorious Revolution begins in England when James II found out the nobles wanted William of Orange and his wife to lead England. Instead of staying to fight - he fled to France.
  • The Glorious Revolution ended with very little bloodshed when William and Mary arrived and agreed to take the throne. They knew there power came from Parliament, not God.
  • William, Mary, and Parliament worked to created the "English Bill of Rights". This document outlined what could and could not be accomplished by monarchs and officially ended the idea of the "divine rights of kings"
