  • The Storming of the Bastille
  • The estates General is a meeting of representatives from each estate. So since each estate only gets one vote the 2 privileged states could always team up and outvote the 3rd estate. So the 3rd estate wanted to meet together and each delegate could vote cause 3rd estate had as many delagates as the 1st and 2nd combined. King disagreed and it angered the people.
  • The Great Fear
  • National Assembly (government of 3rd estate) found themselves locked out of their meeting room. So they broke down a door to an indoor tennis court, pledging to stay until they had drawn up a new constitution.
  • Rumors spread that the King was going to use the military to dismiss the Assembly. So a 3rd estate mob gathered raided the Bastille (a prison) for gunpowder and weapons. The people overwhelmed the guards, and seized the building.
  • Rumor was that nobles were hiring outlaws to terrorize the peasants so, a wave of senseless panic spread through France where peasants became outlaws themselves
