The Great Gatsby Playing Cards
This storyboard does not have a description.
Gatsby is Joker as he is hidden by his false persona. His persona makes him untrustworthy to others around. For instance, someone questions the stability of his act, "..if one brick was removed the whole library was liable to collapse."(pg. 46) This shows that if one little lie is caught, his act will come to a grand finale.
Tom is the King of Diamonds as his riches won't satisfy his needs, not as much as the love from his queen. The queen he wants is Daisy, but she is almost drifting off to Gatsby. He stated that, "...[He] loved Daisy too. Once in while [He] goes off on a spree,.., but [He] always came back." This shows how someone can always go back to get the love from the one they most cherish.
Daisy is the Queen of Hearts as she is the one who is loved by those around her. She has a king that wants her love, but she had someone else that became someone that they're not. Her love for both Tom and Gatsby overwhelm her leaving her confused. She stated to Gatsby, "Oh, you want too much! [She] [loves] [him] now-- isn't that enough? [She] can't help the past. [She] did love him once-- but [She] loved [Gatsby] too."
Nick is the Ace of Spades as his happiness has died of when he turned thirty years old. He remembers that he just turn thirty and realizing that this new decade will be filled with loneliness. He states, "Thirty-- the promise of a decade of loneliness, thinning list of single men to know, a thinning briefcase of enthusiasm, thinning hair." This shows how he wants to be with someone to help him forget the new years of loneliness.
Jordan Baker is the Ten of Clubs because she is always crazy. But she wants someone to care for her and make sure she doesn't get into any danger. For instance, she told Nick that ¨[she] hated careless people. That´s why she likes [Nick].¨ This shows how someone who is always careless about their actions can have their heart pointing toward someone who is always trying to be as careful as anyone can be to take care of them.
Thematic Statement: Fitzgerald uses illusion vs reality to present the idea that love can be mysterious for everyone
