In June 1945 the united states and the soviet union set aside their differences and joined with 48 other countries to form the united nations. This move to join forces was to protect the members against aggression. Together the nations would vote against a broad range of issues.
Winston Churchill did this speech in 1946 march 6 about the iron curtain. He talked about the cities and population being divided. He also said that all the population lie on the soviet sphere and all are subject to one or another.
This speech happened in march 12 1946 and it was called Truman doctrine. Truman talks about United states supporting the personal freedom of people. This speech caused great controversy and some opponents opposed to Americans interference in other nations affairs.

The Marshall plan occurred in 1947 b y the secretary of the state of u.s and he was called George Marshall. He said that the united states aid to the Europeans country that need it. This program would provide food, machinery and many other materials to hep them out.
In 1949 twelve nations joined forces and were called the north Atlantic treaty organization (NATO). This meant that any attack on these nations the enemy would be attacked by every member in this organization. The did this organization because the western European feared of the soviet aggression.
In 1955 the soviet union made its own organization called the Warsaw pack. The soviets did this because they the NATO as a threat. The Warsaw pack included 8 nations forming together. Then in 1961 the east Germany built a wall to separate east and west Berlin.
