Clark was a map maker. Their three goals were to record new plants and animals, find Native Americans and find the Northwest Passage.
The corps had already recorded two of there goals. Finding new animals and plants and finding native amiricans. they found the missori river. they have to travel 20 miles each day against the current. by then the corps had also found over 100 animals and over 150 plants.
Winter with the Mandans
When the Corps of Discovery reached the Great Plains, Charles Floyd died of appendix burst. Charles Floyd was a frontiersman. The Corps threw a funeral. The funeral was held on a bluff. The Corps called it Floyd's Bluff.
When passing the Great Plains they met up with the Teton Sioux. The Teton Sioux almost made a battle. The Teton Sioux let the Corps freely go for the Corps' horses. The bison were not a help for walking, but they managed.
Traveling in the winter was no fun. Getting sickness and hypothermia. they finally found shelter with the Mandan Sioux. They found a girl interpreter. Her name was Sacagewea. She had a baby. Clark helped with the birth of the baby.
Now the Corps were in Missouri. They found more plants and animals including the bear. An Indian tribe warned them of one type of bear. They called this the White Bear. They shot a bear.
