  • Turkey, 2019
  • Hey ChiChi, so Turkey was actually against the USSR and joined the U.N.  in 1945. This was actually during WW2. They mostly stayed neutral until Germany declared war on them.
  • Hey Kaiya, I just came back from History class and we talked about the Cold War.And this question occurred to me, what does Turkey have to do with the cold War? between the U.S. and USSR
  • Well Chich, the USSR actually wanted to spread communism, so they spread it by sailing the Mediterranean Sea. The U.S. stopped it and spread capitalism instead. Communism had no effect on Turkey and turned to capitalism, which followed with the Truman doctrine.
  • Oh wow! I never knew that. So then what did the soviet Union do to make us hate the USSR so much Kai?
  • In fact Turkey provided land to the West, this allowed the U.S. to get close to the enemy. It also showed how serious Turkey was and how close they are to ending the Soviet reign.
  • Yes, in fact they are. Tukey actually wanted to assist the U.S. in ending all commerce with the USSR. So they joined NATO in 1952.
  • Jerry Joe's Eatery
  • Interesting, so that's what our government is, okay. So then are the U.S and Turkey on good terms then?
  • Actually yeah, so Turkey also gave the U.S. a military base. In 1962 Russia placed missiles heads in Cuba, as well as nuclear war heads. So Turkey allowed the U.S. military to place their war heads and weapons there.
  • However, this did strike up the Cuban Missile crisis. It was one of History's greatest stalemates. And yeah, we should go inside, I dont want to die either.
  • dude, really? did Turkey do anything else for the U.S? And also, i want to go inside. I uh, hate heights and I don't want to die from falling.
  • I DO! I just write it in my notes and then forget what the teacher just taught. Hehehehe
  • Man, do you ever pay attention? Anyway, after the missile crisis, Turkey remained in the Cold War. They went through many problems from 1970 to 1990. So they didn't do mush after that incident.
  • Oh, okay. So then what other impacts did Turkey have in the Cold War? This is my last question.
  • The biggest problem was with an attack by Greece in response to a coup d'tat. U should at least pay more attention
  • Unbelievable! that's my sister for ya. Always mind wandering.
