  • Trial Begins
  • Atticus questions Mayella
  • I don't know where people sit in courtrooms
  • You're making me look stupid! No one calls me Ma'am.
  • Mayella reveals the truth
  • Tom Robinson is accused of raping Mayelle Ewell.
  • Tom Robinson is questioned
  • No suh, Mr. Finch
  • Atticus uses reasoning to get Mayella to crack and admit her father was the one who beat her, not Tom Robinson.
  • Tom Robinson tells the truth
  • In fear and tears, Mayella does not answer any of the questions regarding that her father beat her instead.
  • The listening children leave
  • Tom Robinson nervously starts answering the first few questions, but no large truth is revealed yet.
  • Atticus gets Tom Robinson to admit that he would not, could not, and did not rape Mayella.
  • Distraught by the events of the case, the children leave. They heard the majority of the case, and cannot bear to think about it much more
