  • PLATYPUS LIVE IN FRESH WATER WETLANDS INCLUDING RIVERS, LAKES, PONDS, AND SWAMPS. SOMETIMES THEY WALK ONTO LAND AND DIG BURROWS. MOST PLATYPUS ARE FOUND IN BODIES OF WATER THAT HAVE EARTH BANKS WITH ROOTS, OVERHANGING VEGITATION, REEDS, AND LOGS USED FOR CONSTRUCTING THEIR HOMES.
  • DANGEROUS ANIMALS 
  • AT DUSK PLATYPUS COME OUT TO EAT. THEY SPEND MOST OF THEIR NIGHT AT THE BOTTOM OF THE OCEANS SEARCHING FOR FOOD. A PLATYPUS IS A CARNIVORE. IT'S DIET MOSTLY CONSISTS OF SHRIMP, CRAYFISH, INSECT LARVAE, AND WORMS.

  • MAY LIVE UP TO 21 YEARS IN THE WILD. 
  • WEIGHT
  • PLATYPUS HAVE FANG LIKE SPURS ON THEIR ANKLES THAT RELEASE A VENOM. THE VENOM CAN CAUSE GREAT PAIN TO HUMANS AND IS EVEN STRONG ENOUGH TO KILL A DOG. PLATYPUS ARE ONE OF THE FEW MAMMALS TO PRODUCE VENOM.
  • MALES: USUALLY ABOUT 20 INCHES (51 CM) LONG. FEMALES: USUALLY ABOUT 17 INCHES (43 CM) LONG.
  • MALES: 2.6-5.7 POUNDS (1.2-2.6kg) FEMALE: 1.5-3.5 POUNDS (.7-1.6kg)
