Storyboard Text

  • To repay their debt, the British taxed the colonies for goods such as molasses, newspapers, almanacs, playing cards, and dice.
  • Congratulations! You will now be taxed to compensate for England's immense amount of debt!
  • They don't look too happy.
  • During a colonial protest, a group of British soldiers were startled.  They fired into the crowd, killing five. This was called the Boston Massacre.
  • The British passed the Tea Act, hoping that the colonists would calm down due to the lower tea costs. However they were still being taxed without representation, so the colonists continued to protest.
  • To continue the protest, colonists dressed as Natives boarded a British ship and threw what would roughly be today $4,000,000 dollars worth of tea into the harbor.
  • In response to the Boston Tea Party, England passed a series of harsh laws that were justly named the Intolerable Acts. The colonists were not happy, but soon they would be furious.
