  • At six years old Colonial Sanders lost his father, leaving him too cook and support for his family.

  • In Colonial's 7th grade year he dropped out of school and fled from home to work as a farmhand.

  • At 16 years of age he faked his age and enlisted in the military, but a year later he was honorably discharged for falsifying.

  • It wasn't until age 40 that he began selling chicken dish's in a service station. Although as he began to advertise his food, an argument with a competitor resulted in a deadly shootout.
  • He tried to franchise his restaurant multiple times. His recipe was rejected 1,009 times before anyone accepted it. Sander's "secret recipe" was coined "Kentucky Fried Chicken", and quickly became a hit. However, the booming restaurant was crippled when an interstate opened nearby so Sanders sold it and pursued his dream of spreading KFC franchises & hiring KFC workers all across the country.After years of failures and misfortunes, Sanders finally hit it big. KFC expanded internationally and he sold the company for two million dollars ($15.3 million today).
  • In Salva's case the main character in “A Long Walk To Water”, he collapses in the desert from hunger and thirst, but also from the absence of hope. But eventually Salva finds motivation in his desire to reunite with the rest of his family, even after years of not seeing them but he continues to hope that they’re still alive. This motivation and reason to live caused Salva to push himself to survive. Salvia is taught to take one step at a time because focusing on the distance of the journey as a whole could have stopped him and caused him to give up. He keep these thoughts with him throughout his journey until he reached the United States, were then he still remembered the struggle of others and decided to give back to his country of origin, Africa.
