Storyboard Text

  • "Listen carefully to what I am about to tell you...In a few moments,..."
  • The military march. The gate. The camp.
  • These prisoners had creative ways of coping because they talked to and helped each other so they could keep working and not be sentenced to death.
  • Words that have strong connotation in the quotation are "...silent, motionless, hunted-down creatures." These words convey the tone of Wiesel's narrative because they show that everything around them is falling apart and it's not like how it used to be and how everything is now silent uncomfortable.
  • Wiesel uses short and incomplete sentences to show the fear that he has to find out if his father is alive or not and it tells us how close he might be to finding out. This stylistic approach affects the meaning because it makes us feel the fear he is experiencing as well.
