  • One of the things the government wanted to do to the Native Americans was make them more like whites. 
  • This process is called assimilation.  It means one group of people taking on the traits of others.
  • . A form of assimilation was boarding schools. This process made Native Americans Families separate. And made Native Americans live like whites. 
  • At the schools the Native Americans the teachers used multiple methods for making them give up their give up their cultural practices. They changed them completely, they cut their hair and styled them like whites.
  • If children were found practicing the Native American culture they were punished severely.
  • students spent half a day at school on work and assignments. Assignments  were give according to gender, grils had  to do house work and boys did hard work like chopping fire wood  and learning how to do carpentry.
  • Assimilation was a way to get rid of Native Americans. But Some people want to let native americans a chance with the American Dream.
