The narrator has a good relationship with the old man. He loves the old man and has nothing against him. Except for his evil eye, which is pale blue with a film over it. The narrator hates the eye and decides to kill the old man to be free of it.
The narrator goes to the old man's room every night, for seven days. Each night he opens the door and puts in a lantern. Then, he puts his head in slowly and then shines a tiny beam of light on the old man's eye. Each night the eye is closed, so the narrator can't kill him.
I heard a Scream from Next door. I'm Going to Call the Police
One night, the narrator slips into the old man’s bedroom, removes him from his bed, and drags the bed over his body to kill him.
He cuts him into pieces and buries the body under the floorboards.
A neighbor had heard a scream and called them. The narrator says he screamed while sleeping, and claims that the old man is out of town.
When the police come to question him, he is disturbed by the sound of the old man’s heart, which he perceives to be still beating beneath the floorboards. He is so disturbed that he confesses and tells the police where to find the body.
