Ponyboy's conflict with the Socs shape him in the story. The Socs preying on the Greasers make Pony feel like the world is against him. The rumble also makes Pony feel proud to be apart of the greasers as seen when he says, "I surveyed the scene with pride" (139). The Socs evantually revealed to Ponyboy that everyone has issues/hardships.
Ponyboy feels pressured and limited by Darry's strict rules. Ponyboy stayed out too late chatting with Johnny in the lot, Darry gets extremely mad he says, "I forgot! That's all I hear out of you! Can't you think of anything!" (50). Later, Pony Starts to understand Darry's position and a strong bond is formed.
