In "the monsters are due on maple street" by Rod Serling, one of the main theme is that fear and suspicion are destructive forces. In "the monsters are due on maple street" by Rod Serling, one of the main theme is that fear and suspicion are destructive forces. I put this theme because the people in the story were just saying”its you,” “NO its you.” They just were not thinking and just accusing very everyone but thinking why it would be them. First, when Charlie shot Pete because he thought he was the monster. He also shot him because everyone was like its the monster. But, they did not wait to see who it was they assumed that it was the monster. After, Charlie shot Pete everyone thought Charlie was the monster because he shot him. When even though everyone said it was the monster and to shoot him. They were just trying to blame one other but just not there self. Second, when the people just start doing crazy and running around like mad people. They were throwing rocks at the windows and saying “NO it's you,” “NO you.” They were just thinking about them self and how not to get blamed for anything. They were fighting with the neighbors that they had for a long time. They were just turning on eachother even on their best friend. They were not looking at the facts. Lastly, when Les’s car turn on all the people thought he was the monster. They thought he was the monster because his car turn on. They made a group in front of Les’s house. They just started to yell at Les all these questions expecting a answer for all the question. Then Les started to yell back at them trying to defend himself. In, conclusion fear and suspicion are destructive forces because it can break friendships and make people turn on eachother. They would lie just for people not to blame them.
