- Ponyboy and Johnny get jumped by a group of Socs. Ponyboy almost drowns and Johnny murders Bob the Soc with his switchblade. On page 57 Johnny says, "They were drowning you ,Pony. They might have killed you...they were gonna beat me up"
- On his way home from the movies, Ponyboy gets jumped by the Socs. He gets hurt bad. On page 7 when it is talking about how hurt Ponyboy is it says, "I was smarting and aching and my chest was sore and i was so nervous my hands were shaking"
- The greasers fights in the rumble. Many members of the gang get injured during the rumble. On page 151 when it is talking about the aftermath of the rumble it says, "Steve...his side bandaged...Soda had a wide cut on his lip...there was a bandaid over Darry's forehead...Two-Bit's face was taped up"
- Ponyboy and Cherry are waiting in line at the movies, he talks about when Johnny got hurt badly by a Soc. On page 32 when Ponyboy is talking about when him, Soda, and Steve found Ponyboy and the football field Ponyboy says, "Johnny was lying face down on the ground...someone had beaten him badly"
- After Ponyboy comes home Darry gets mad ad slaps Ponyboy. On page 50 it says that, "slapped me so hard that it knocked me against the door."
- After seeing Johnny die on page 149, Dally goes and purpose- fully gets shot by a cop. On page it says, "...the impact of the bullets, the slowly crumpled with a look of triumph on his face. He was dead before he hit the ground."
