  • I think that it would be a win for us and you, Columbus, because we want to spread Catholicism through the world.
  • I think that you should fund my voyage to India because I want fame and fortune.
  • I will call you "los indios" and you will work for me.
  • Christopher Columbus wanted to go on a voyage to the West Indies, but he needed funding so he asked Isabella of Castile and Ferdinand of Aragon if he could sail on behalf of Spain even though he was from Italy. He then signed a contract stating that he would be able to keep 10 percent of his findings and governorship of any lands that he encountered.
  • Gold! Gold! Gold! I am searching for gold!
  • Christoper Columbus began his voyage, sailing West across the Atlantic in search of an alternate trade to Asia and its riches. The Nina, Pinta, and Santa Maria sailed out of a Spanish port in 1492.
  • Columbus miscalculated where he was and he did not reach the West Indies. Researchers believe that he landed in the Bahamas but it is not know for sure. He thought that he was in the West Indies so he called the native people Indians (los indios). He also forced them to do manual labor because they had good bodies for it. 
  • I do not come baring gifts, however, I have discovered new land!
  • Columbus was in search for gold so he went from island to island to find it.
  • Columbus sailed back to Spain in 1493.
  • Christopher Columbus told the Spanish leaders about his voyage and how he discovered a new land even though he did not bring back anything.
