If only I was chopping wood Dad's thumb wouldn't be hurt and we wouldn't have to work as hard to survive winter. Hmm, what could I do? I know could replace dad and be voyageur, we won't have to struggle through winter!
I am very nervous for the journey to come. The group is getting a long well so far. I am very sore and I wish I was back at school.
Our brigade decided to do a portage instead of going on the big rapids, it was too risky. The carry was hard but I managed. The packs were heavy which made it harder to keep balance, it was also a long walk.
I can already see my cabin and family waiting for me back in Lachine.
It was very scary crossing Lake Superior, it was very stormy. We took on big waves, I had to bail the water out of the canoe. We decided to cut through the middle but last minute we hugged the shoreline and stayed on a island in the middle of the lake because it got too dangerous.
It was amazing to know that we made it to Grand Portage. When I first saw on the lake I was relieved to know I was half way home.
I have decided to go back to Lachine to see my well missed family, but I will be returning next season. I just missed them so much I had to come back home.
