Let me tell you about the Oregon pioneers! We start way back in 1836 when our pioneers set off on their 3000 mile journey to Oregon. Back in 1836 people from Missouri spread the word that there was land available in Oregon, but decided take advantage of the free land instead. But do you realize that actually 10,000, yes I just said, 10,000 people died on this treacherous journey. Now let me fill you in on some of the details of this dangerous journey to Oregon.
You might believe the Oregon Pioneers had a great time in this outdoor journey and having parties and driving wagons, but there were A LOT of hardships. One of the main hardships that happened on this journey was people drowned often, actually quite often from crossing rivers in their rotting wagons. Many people also died from disease, starvation, and drought . People also died from drinking bad water. You will find that it is also quite often to find people dying from heat stroke or frostbite from the lack of shelter (aka the weather).
Trees did it help for shelter and making fires, But did not prevent bad weather. Trees did help a little bit but a lot of those 10,000 people who died on this journey died from the weather, and killed most of their animals such as cattle.
I would also like to point out that women were very important on this trip. You're probably wondering why, well I'm going to tell you right now. One of the main reasons women were helpful on this trip to Oregon was they helped prepare food and water for the men and other women to drink and eat. Women also had the big job of taking care of the sick who caught diseases on the way there or suffered from other diseases such as cross play heat stroke and so on and so forth. It's amazing to think about how many jobs the women had to do and all the responsibilities they had to take care of on this journey most people think it was just a minute doing all the work well, that idea is out the window.
For years people moved west to strike rich, and the Oregon Pioneers decided to go there too just for that reason. The reason I said to strike rich is because there was a lot of gold found out west in California, Oregon, and Washington. There were other reasons the Oregon Pioneers went west too. Most of the Oregon Pioneers went there to find gold but others went there to find farmland and places to build homes and towns.
Like I said before the trip was very Dangerous for many reasons, but the big picture is that 10000 people died on this very dangerous Journey many reasons but keep in mind this is not the laughing matter and never will be. Thank you.
