  • location and geography of Rome
  • Explain the myth of Romulus and Remus
  • Etruscan influence of engineering on the Romans (the use of the archway, cuniculus)
  • Rome is located in Italy. It is shaped like a boot and surrounded by water on 3 sides. It is a peninsula. 
  • Etruscan influence of sports on the Romans (slave fighting/gladiator fighting or chariot racing) 
  • Romulus killed his brother. He became king of the city, which he named Rome.Interaction with these groups, the Etruscan's and the Greeks, influenced Roman culture in the fields of engineering, sports, architecture, writing, art, and religion.
  • Explain the Greek influence of architecture on the Roman civilization (the use of columns). 
  • The Romans became excellent builders because they learned many techniques about engineering, or the science of building, from the Etruscan's. Etruscan arches rested on two pillars with wedge-shaped stone.
  • Explain the Greek influence of writing, art, and religion on the Romans
  • Romans also adapted two bloody Etruscan sporting events. The first was slave fighting. Etruscan spectators also enjoyed watching chariot races. The charioteers, or drivers, were strapped to their chariots. 
  • The Greeks constructed marble temples as homes for their  multiple gods. Temples like the Parthenon had stately columns that added to the nice city
  • Both the Etruscans and the Romans admired Greek pottery, painting, and sculpture.Sometimes, the Greek influence on Roman culture was indirect.For example, the Greek alphabet was adopted and then changed by the Etruscan's
