  • Answer: It leads to adaptations because the animals get used to the environment. The animals adapt to the environments conditions, white leads to the the fact that the ones that adapt survive and reproduce.
  • Principle 2: Overproduction and the Struggle to Survive
  • Focus Question: How does natural selection lead to adaptation in populations?
  • Unit: Evolution
  • Environment: Freshwater/Forest Organism: White Tailed Deer Adaptation: Strong Legs/ Long Legs Adaptation Type: Physical
  • Principle 3: Survival and Reproduction of the Fittest
  • Adaptation
  • Description: Here, there is one doe and two buck's. The doe has long legs just like the buck on the top left, but the buck on the right does not. So, due to this, the buck on the right will be slower that the other two and won't have the defense like the left buck against predators.
  • Principe 1: Genetic Variation
  • Principle 4: Changes in the Gene Pool
  • Description: Here, the short legged buck has died from its disadvantage of short legs. It could not run fast enough from it's predator and died.
  • Description: Here, the long legged buck and doe have given birth to an offspring. Because of this, they passed on their genetic trait of long legs.
  • Description: The changes in the gene pool are that the offspring shall now have the long legged gene. Due to this, the survival of long legged deer will continue to reproduce offspring with this genetic trait.
