  • Vergil was born on October 15th, 70 BC in the Italian town of Mantua
  • Growing up, he received an excellent education in Rome
  • Salvete, omnes!
  • Later, after the assassination of Julius Caesar, Vergil's father's land was taken away
  • This inspired Vergil to write the Eclogues and Georgics, two poems about farming. After their success, he began writing the Aeneid
  • Arma virumque cano,
  • Impressed by Vergil's work, Augustus invited him to travel to Rome together. Unfortunately, Vergil grew very ill on the journey.
  • As the Aeneid was unfinished, Vergil wished for it to be destroyed. Augustus, however, refused to do so. Vergil died with his greatest work unfinished.
