Laius kills Oedipus.
*slurs* Polybus and Merope are not your actual parents.
Oedipus explains to Jocasta, "A man at the banquet table, who had had too much to drink, told me, over his wine, that I was not the true son of my father" (Sophocles 45).
Who are my birth parents then?
Why has this been hidden from me for so many years?
Apollo explained to Oedipus, "To lie with my mother and beget children men's eyes would not bear the sight of" (Sophocles 45).
You are going to kill your father and marry you mother.
Oedipus announces, "I was running to a place where I would never see that shameful prophecy come true" (Sophocles 45).
I need to leave before the prophecy comes true!
Oedipus explains, "As I journeyed on I came near to this triple crossroad and there I was met by a herald and a man riding on a horse-drawn wagon" (Sophocles 45).
Move out of my way!
Do NOT tell ME what to do!
*Repeats* Move out of my way!
Oedipus says, "The driver, and the old man himself, tried to push me off the road" (Sophocles 45).
Take another step closer and you will not live to see another day.
*takes last breath*
Oedipus speaks viciously, "In anger I struck the driver as he tried to crowd me off" (Sophocles 45).
That will show him.
