Curley's wife does not get to talk to any of the guys on the farm because Curley does not want her to, resulting in her to be lonely. Curely's wife says to Lennie that "Why can't I talk to you? I never get to talk to nobody. I get awful lonely." Page 86
Crooks lives by himself in the back of the barn, and when he tries to play cards with the others he is not allowed to because "Cause I'm black. They play cards there but I can't because I'm black." Page 68
Lennie tries to make friends with Crooks because when George is not around he gets lonely. "Slim an' George an' ever'body" Lennie could not go into town with the others. Page 68
