The Native American Tribes in the US had set many treaties of peace with the US to keep their land safe and theirs, but these treaties were violated and disregarded when Jackson became president.
Indian Removal Act
Today, we shall kick the savages out of our lands, and take what is ours!
In order for many Natives to keep their lands, they knew they had to assimilate, or become more "civilized" like the Americans. So, they attempted to live a life just like Americans meaning they lived in towns and wore different cloths. They also adopted the government of the Americans.
Worcester V. Georgia Supreme Court Case
THIS IS UNCONSTITUTIONAL
The Cherokee Land was found to be very valuable, for gold had been found here, and the Americans desperatly want this land.
Trail of Tears and Indian Territory
President Andrew Jackson ordered a law to be made that would allow the Americans to kick out the natives, and disregard the previous peace treaties with them.
The Native Tribe Cherokee decided that this was unfair and unconstitutional, and took their case to court, winning the case and being told by the Supreme Court that it was unconstitutional and they could stay.
Andrew Jackson decided he did not care what the Supreme Court said, and sent out a law to kick the Natives out. The natives were taken away, and Jackson was never questioned at the time. Most Natives died on the trail of tears.
