  • Langston Hughes was born February 1, 1902, in Joplin Missouri. His parents got separated soon after his birth. He lived with his grandmother for a few years, after she died in his early teens. From that point on he lived with his mother.

  • I love novels!
  • With his mother Langston eventually moved to Cleveland, Ohio. His teacher introduced poetry to him and from that point, he continuously wrote. Soon after, he graduated from high school and spent a year with his dad in Mexico.

  • Today, we are going to do a musical commemorating Langston Hughes!
  • When Hughes returned to America he worked on various of jobs. One day, Hughes met a poet named, Vachel Lindsay. Langston showed her some of his work. Vachel read his worked and decided to give Hughes a wider audience. In 1925, he won his first prize for "The Weary Blues", where he a scholarship for Lincoln University.
  • Death and Legacy
  • After Langston Hughes graduated from high school he published his first novel, "No Without Laughter". His first novel was so succesfulthat it convinced Langston to write novels for the rest of his life.
  • In 1940, Langston Hughes published his autobiography (up till the age of 28 years). In 1949 he wrote a play . His works became very famous in the past two decades. People have been turning langston Hughes'swork into Broadway musicals.
  • On May 22, 1967 Langston Hughes died of prostate cancer. HI funeral contained a spoken eulogy and jazz blue music, as an honor to commemorator him. He was buried beneath the entrance of the Arthur Schoenberg? Center. Langston Hughes will always be remembered.
