  • A letter to King William 4 by 13 maori chiefs from the Bay of Islands in 1831. The Maori chiefs main aim were to get the kings protection against the french. other concerns they had were inter-tribal conflict, the miscounduct of british subjects and they wanted the kind to defend them against lawless.
