  • What no, Polly cant be dead.
  • Matilda this is hard to say, but Polly's dead.
  • Moms gone, Polly's gone, this is the worst day ever.
  • It is 1793, and Matilda lives in a coffee shop in Philadelphia. Every where she walks it is dirty and unsanitary. Every day she has to throw away a dead animal.
  • No Grandfather!
  • A disease has been going around and the other day it killed Polly, (their maid/free slave.) Matilda was devastated when she heard about it, because Polly was her best friend.
  • I saw your china doll out there, broken. Wheres your mom?
  • My China doll is broken, and so is my mamma.
  • A week after Polly had gotten yellow fever, Matilda's mom had gotten it too. She was sent away to the hospital immediately. Now Matilda has to live with her Grandfather, until her mother gets better.
  • Matilda, i'm so happy that your alive.
  • Mom your alive!
  • When her mother went to the hospital Matilda had to stay with her Grandfather. They stayed at an apartment home. One night they were sleeping and two men robbed them. Matilda's Grandfather tried to hold them off but he got stabbed and died in the process.
  • Matilda was all alone with no one to help her. She was walking down the road and saw a little girl about 4 years younger then her. She realized that she was alone too, and wanted to help her.
  • The disease finally went away and Matilda survived.  She never gave up even when the toughest things had happened. She was running the coffee shop one day and a lady rolled in on a wheelchair. Matilda thought she knew her and she did, it was her mother who had also survived the disease.
