UDL - Options for Expression

Storyboard Text

  • Down syndrome
  • Dyslexic
  • Prader-Willi syndrome
  • Williams syndrome
  • ADHD
  • Autistic
  • We're always just writing... I want to learn how to make a video or draw a comic.
  • Is the goal of this lesson writing skills, or storytelling skills?
  • How do I reduce construct-irrelevant, media-specific barriers?
  • If I can't draw my story, at least let me type it and use a spell-checker.
  • I wish this could be interactive. I love telling stories, but I just can't write them down very well.
  • Are we focusing on specific calculations or on understanding concepts and patterns?
  • I wish we had physical objects to play with to see if I'm really getting it. I think I can explain this to a peer, but I can't write it down numerically.
  • This step-by-step worksheet is helpful. I think this could be done this way... and this way ...
  • How do I let everyone show me and others whether they are understanding or not?
  • If only this involved a game or simulation that I could explore with a group of peers.
  • I enjoy the repetitive rhythms of percussion instruments.
  • I struggle with most instruments because of my fine-motor skills. Being able to use my singing voice as an instrument lets me do a lot more.
  • The goal of this class is for students to perform using musical instruments. How can I help all students achieve this?
  • How do I provide other media/tool -related options?
  • I can learn better by listening rather than by reading notation. I also wish we could learn more than one instrument.
  • The goal is to stage a play. How do I involve all students?
  • Let's discuss together and act things out as we develop the plot, rather than just reading a written script.
  • How do I help everyone express themselves while working together?
  • So many people doing different things, and so much spontaneity. I wish we could use puppets or masks.
  • I wish we could slow down and take our time. I want to use props and record ourselves to see how we're doing.
  • How to I stimulate interest in nature and make sure the students actually learn?
  • There is so much to see and learn in nature. I love exploring on my own with very little structure or just simple activities.
  • How do I provide varied scaffolds and supports?
  • I am not used to learning outdoors with no guidance. I wish I had some examples of what I could do, or a mentor.
  • I enjoy playing with animals in the park. It would be great if we could do jigsaws or other puzzles related to nature.
