  • Washington served as a general during the Revolutionary war and proved himself to be a prominent leader and to be respected by his men. His strategical prowess and planning allowed him to change the tide of war and gave him the respect of his peers.
  • Washington was sworn in 1789 as the first president of The United States of America and helped found what we know as the modern presidency and started reforming the nation to stay as once cohesive unit.
  • Washington did not enjoy leading the nation and due to the partisan government that was forming around him, he had to stay for two terms before finally stating that he was leaving completely back to Mount Vernon in 1797.
