1528 Cabeza de Vaca, had a expedition that got lost and was forced to bulid boats to sail back to Mexico. Boats got caught in a hurricane and his men and him were shipwrecked on Galveston Island. One story was of Cibola, fabled city of gold.
1540 Coronado, him and 1000 men went in search for the city of gold. They didn't find the city but they did find the Grand Canyon, the Pacific Ocean, and explored all the way into present-day Kansas.
1648 La Salle, he explored the length of the Mississippi River. Also convinced the King of France to establish a colony at the mouth of the Mississippi River. La Salle set out 4 full ships of supplies and colonists.
