Blacks and whites were segregated by the Jim Crow Laws. Between 1874-1975
In 1934 in Alabama a law was made that no white person should be served in the same building gas a black. If your restaurant served both races there would be a seven foot wall in between the different races.
In 1935, Connecticut upheld racial segregation in schools.
In 1872 in Rhode Island there was a law saying that interracial marriage could be penalized. With either a $1,000 fine or up to six months in prison.
Another law was that blacks and whites were not aloud to be held in the same cell. Or be together.
In 1955 a law in Tennessee said that white and black patients should be treated in different buildings for the insane.
