  • Blacks and whites were segregated by the Jim Crow Laws. Between 1874-1975
  • In 1934 in Alabama a law was made that no white person should be served in the same building gas a black.  If your restaurant served both races there would be a seven foot wall in between the different races.
  • Black Restaurant 
  • In 1935, Connecticut upheld racial segregation in schools.
  • In 1872 in Rhode Island there was a law saying that interracial marriage could be penalized. With either a $1,000 fine or up to six months in prison.
  • Another law was that blacks and whites were not aloud to be held in the same cell. Or be together.
  • In 1955 a law in Tennessee said that white and black patients should be treated in different buildings for the insane.
