  • You always need to wear the appropriate lab equipment to lab to prevent accidents. These pieces of clothing include gloves, goggles, close toed shoes, a lab coat or apron, rolled up sleeves, and possibly tied up hair.
  • Always Wear Safety Equipment
  • Use Heat Safely
  • Whenever you use sharp objects such as knives or scalpels, you must cut away from your body, always walk with the blade down, and always put the sharp object towards the middle of the table to avoid anyone running into a blade. You need to follow this rule so no one gets cut or impaled.
  • Handle Sharp Objects with care

  • You NEED to follow all the instructions carefully to prevent any fires, spills, or other dangerous situations that could be caused by carelessness. If you follow the lab instructions carefully, you are more likely to succeed in the lab or experiment.
  • Always Follow Instructions
  • When using heat sources always tie back hair and loose clothing when working with open flames, never look into a container as you are heating it, keep in mind heated metal and glass looks cool so use tongs or gloves before handling, and never leave a heat source unattended.
  • Animal safety is a very important lab safety rule. When handling animals, always treat them humanly, and only handle live specimens with teacher permission. You also should ALWAYS wash your hands after handling a live specimen.
