Distance vs Displacement

Distance vs Displacement

Storyboard Text

  • John traveled a distance of 6 miles and a displacement of 4 miles to get to the coffee to meet his friend.
  • The reason my distance and displacement are different is because distance is the how much I travelled while displacement is specifically how far I travelled from my starting point.
  • The reason John traveled four miles as a displacement is because he had errands to run and stopped at a gas station that was two miles away from the coffee shop.
  • The equation for distance is d=s/t so the distance I travelled in total is 6 miles.
  • John went back to the coffee shop after to meet his friend therefore making it a displacement of 4 miles.
  • The equation for displacement is x=xf-x0 so the displacement is 4 miles because that is how far I travelled from my starting point.
